The Four Horrors

I have found four unavoidable things now that I’m middle-aged:
· Death
· Tax Prep
· Trips to the DMV
· Colonoscopy Prep
Death: It happens to us all, just a matter of when and how. I can’t really worry about it.
Taxes: I dread them, I procrastinate, I agonize over it, then I finally do it. Triumph! Accomplishment! I am invincible! (Until my accountant tells me what we owe.)
Trips to the DMV: Three times in the past couple of months I’ve managed to make unnecessary trips to the DMV. First time, I made my online appointment and then did everything except hit the Comfirm button; I had no appointment and had to go home. Second time, I actually made the appointment, but when I was called to the window, I found out that I didn’t need to be there at all. Third time, exact same thing as the second time. Luckily, it’s a slightly scenic drive to get there.
Colonoscopy Prep: Apparently, I have perfectly healthy bowls; my sister does not. Thus, instead of being on the ten-year plan, I am on the five-year plan. The prep is such a horror, I can’t even speak of it. You know what I’m talking about.
